Cloud Infrastructure Firm Joyent Deploys at Equinix Washington, Amsterdam Data Centers

Equinix IBX data centers in Washington, D.C. and Amsterdam

Data center provider Equinix announced on Tuesday that cloud infrastructure provider Joyent has deployed at Equinix International Business Exchange data centers in Washington, D.C. and Amsterdam.

Joyent plans to deploy with Equinix in Asia later this year, an area of focus for Equinix recently. In July, Equinix completed the acquisition of Hong Kong-based data center provider Asia Tone to strengthen its position in Asia-Pacific. Prior to that, Equinix invested $28.5 million to expand its Singapore data center.

This announcement comes as Joyent has discontinued its lifetime web hosting deal, a controversial decision with many customers whose initial fee of $499 was used to kickstart the company.

Initially available in the US, Joyent extended its infrastructure-as-a-service offering to Europe in April. At the time, Joyent hinted at expansions in Singapore and Tokyo.

Joyent says it will be able to scale quickly to meet its future capacity requirements with Equinix, since it’s available capacity stretches across five continents.

In addition to deploying in Equinix data centers, Joyent uses the Equinix Marketplace to find potential customers and partners in other Equinix facilities.

“With Equinix, Joyent has access to more markets to fuel revenue growth, lower service delivery costs and create business value,” Chris Sharp, general manager, cloud and content for Equinix said in a statement. “We are pleased to have premium cloud provider Joyent join our rich ecosystem of more than 300 cloud service providers and provide them with the opportunity to connect to the more than 4,000 companies that have made Platform Equinix their data center destination of choice.”
