Software developer Red Hat announced on Monday it will release an enterprise-based commercial version of open source cloud IaaS platform OpenStack.
The move further establishes the growing support for OpenStack. Cloud hosting provider Rackspace recently moved its public cloud products Cloud Servers and Cloud Database on the OpenStack open source cloud platform.
Red Hat also began offering a downloadable preview version, which will help the company to receive feedback before the solution is eventually offered for commercial release.
“It’s a preview, so it’s still a little rough around the edges,” said Red Hat via its website. “We’ve been working in the OpenStack community for a while now and can see its potential. Our focus has been around making OpenStack a great product for enterprises to use. Just like we did with Linux.”
The platform can be downloaded on Red Hat’s website for those individuals operating a system on Red Hat Enterprise Linux version 6.3 or newer.
OpenStack technology provides IT administrators with a ramge offunctions including networking, computing and storage via shared data center servers.
User can operate and control the platform via OpenStack dashboards.
Earlier this month, Red Hat released Deltacloud 1.0, an API that enables management of resources across different clouds.
